Find your WHY...

Many people tell me they want to change for various reasons. Whatever your reason, it is important to carefully think about WHY you want to change. Most people when asked will say “I just want to be healthy” or “I want to look good” but those are actually pathetic reasons, please bear with me for a moment.

Ask yourself…WHY do you want to be healthy? Or, WHY do you want to look good?

Is it because you want to feel more confident without a shirt on? Is it because your children are begging you to play with them but you aren’t physically able? Is it because you want to be around when your children have grandchildren? Is it because you want to be a role model for your family? Is it because you need to improve your strength and cardiovascular performance in order to pass a test required to become a police officer or firefighter. Or maybe your reason for wanting to change is that you are just sick and tired of feeling sick and tired!

While these reasons are more specific and have deeper meaning to them it is still possible to dig deeper. For example, why does feeling more confident at the pool matter to you? Why do you want to be around when your children have grandchildren? See where I am going with this?

Digging deep and getting to the very specific reasons you want to change are VERY important to keep in mind because when times get tough (and they will), you need to refer back to your WHY to help you stay on track and not give up.

In closing, think very carefully about your WHY. Write it down and put it in a visible place so that you can be constantly reminded about the reason WHY you want to change.

If you want to read a book on this topic, Simon Sinek has written two, one is called “Start with WHY” and the other is called “Find your WHY.” Disclosure: I have no affiliation with him whatsoever and get no compensation by recommending his books.
